Yogi to weightlifter: one week in
I am stronger than I have ever been in my life. Us yogis have bodies that are quick to adapt, we are in-tune, we are ready, we are ripe.
One week into my journey and I am lifting weights heavier than I ever thought I could. Here’s what’s changed for me already:
I am sleeping better, way better.
My yoga practice is on fire, everything is easier, everything is more fluid, I stretch way more deeply.
My energy is up … I think it’s that extra testosterone flowing through me .. I’m up for it in life. Party in town on a Wednesday night?… yes! count me in!
Hair, skin and nails are luscious. Again, thank you testosterone. My weight training also gets me a little excited so I’m less likely to reach for unhealthy food or stay up too late. I am brimming vitality and good health.
I have slowed down. Pick up the weight slowly, put it down slowly. Slow down the breath when it starts to get hard. Steady the gaze and turn to Ujjayi breath when it gets really, really hard. Stay slow, stay focused, stay calm.
My body is amazing. Looks-wise not much has changed. But as I move through my day I feel like Superman. I am wearing a suit. A suit of toned muscles just under my skin, I am cruising through life like a rock star even if you can’t see it on the outside.
Lifting weights is much harder work that I thought. I need to ‘make myself’ do it. Very often a voice says, ‘why bother, you’re fine as you are’. Another voice says, ‘come on, you’ve got this’.
